Sort of.The Giants on Monday signed guard Austin Droogsma after the team’s rookie mini-camp. Droogsma was a college shot putter at Florida State and has not played football since high school. Droogsma is 6-foot-4, 345 pounds.Per Droogsma’s Florida State bio, he was an offensive tackle in high school and had a number of major college scholarship offers.The Giants also signed placekicker Joey Slye, formerly of Virginia Tech. Slye was also part of the rookie mini-camp tryout. In four years, Slye made 78 of 108 field goal attempts (72.2 percent) and 169 of 172 extra-point attempts (98.3 percent). Slye is likely not real competition for Pro Bowl kicker Aldrick Rosas. Quarterback Garett Gilbert continues to be a source of consistency. He finished with 207 yards and one score as they narrowly beat the Express 21-17. Salt Lake City comes into this game after knocking off the Hotshots 23-15. The Stallions are hoping to play spoiler again against Steve Spurrier’s Apollos. Last week receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El was blowing past defenders, finishing with 8 receptions for 90 yards and one touchdown. Defensive back Tyson Graham Jr. also racked up 10 tackles on the day.Despite starting off the season hot, the Hotshots were cooled down against the Stallions.
