Some teams got significantly better Antworten

SAN JOSE, Calif. Lou Piniella Jersey . -- Now that the Los Angeles Kings have made it halfway to a historic comeback, the task actually seems even more difficult now that they know how close they are. Jonathan Quick made 30 saves to shut out San Jose for the fourth time in his career in the post-season and the Kings staved off elimination for a second straight game by beating the Sharks 3-0 on Saturday night in Game 5 of their first-round series. "If anything, it seems a little more daunting because we came this far to get two, now we need to take two more," defenceman Drew Doughty said. "It puts more pressure on us because we can kind of smell it. We cant get ahead of ourselves. We have a lot of work ahead of us." Tyler Toffoli, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter scored for the Kings, who have rebounded after losing the first three games of the series. Quick allowed 16 goals in those losses, but once again is starting to look like the goalie who stymied the Sharks in a second-round series a year ago. Antti Niemi allowed three goals on 19 shots and got pulled for the second straight game for the Sharks. Perhaps more importantly, San Jose also lost star defenceman Marc-Edouard Vlasic to an upper-body injury after he was elbowed in the head by Jarret Stoll late in the first period. "We did a lot of good things for 3 1/2 games. Tonight was red rotten," coach Todd McLellan said. "Thats simply put. When we started the series, we talked about leaving games behind, closing the book on it. Theres no doubt well look at it. We have to improve. But its put in the bank and well move on." They may have to do it without Vlasic. He is questionable for Game 6 on Monday night in Los Angeles as the Kings are looking to become just the fourth NHL team to overcome a 3-0 deficit to win a playoff series. They finally broke through in San Jose after losing five playoff games here the past two seasons and 12 of 13 games here overall. But they will need to win here again to complete the comeback as Game 7 will be in San Jose on Wednesday, if necessary. The Kings came out looking like a desperate team and dominated from the start against the listless Sharks, who were unable to feed off the energy from a frenzied crowd hoping to see a fierce rival get eliminated. "We had a good start," Quick said. "We got a few shifts and we just tried to keep building on it. They came with a lot, too. They had a big pushback. Its not easy to win against this team. Theyre a great team for a reason." Los Angeles controlled the game on the ice, the shot clock and the scoreboard to take a 2-0 lead in the first period and mostly silence the crowd. The Kings opened the scoring when Tanner Pearson outraced Vlasic to a loose puck and fed a rushing Toffoli, who patiently skated around James Sheppard and beat Niemi with a shot from the slot to make it 1-0. The Kings made it 2-0 shortly after Joe Thornton was unable to bat a cross-ice pass from Brent Burns into an empty net. That fueled a 3-on-2 rush the other way and Kopitar knocked in a rebound of Dustin Browns shot. "Usually, we have really fast starts in this building and that wasnt the case tonight," Thornton said. "They started faster than us. Really, its a rarity around here. We just have to have better starts. Thats the bottom line." The Sharks responded to a 2-0 deficit in Game 2 that deficit with seven straight goals, but it was quickly clear that would not repeat when Carter banked a shot off Brad Stuarts skate for a power-play goal 22 seconds into the second period to end Niemis night. Alex Stalock came in and stopped 22 shots, but it was too late to save the Sharks in this game although it could make McLellan consider starting him in Game 6. "Well have to make some decisions throughout our lineup at every position because we werent obviously near good enough tonight," McLellan said. San Jose finally showed some life late in the second period, but by then Quick was on his game, robbing Brent Burns with a pad save on the power play late in the period. "I thought tonight was probably our best defensive game so far this series," Doughty said. "We dont want Quicky to have to stand on his head every night. We want to play well in front of him. We want to do things to make it a little easier for him. I thought we did that tonight but when he was called upon he was huge." NOTES: Niemi has been pulled four times in 38 playoff starts for San Jose, all against Los Angeles. ... Carter has points in nine straight playoff games dating to last season. Cheap Mariners Jerseys . Some teams got significantly better, some teams divested themselves of talent and some teams had quiet afternoons, keeping the status quo. Bret Boone Jersey . The union filed a grievance late Thursday, one day after Goodell suspended four players who participated in bounties from 2009-11. The complaint says Goodell is prohibited from punishing players for any aspect of the case occurring before the new collective bargaining agreement was signed last August. https://www.cheapmariners.com/2045k-j-p-crawford-jersey-mariners.html .C. -- Authorities say the brother of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White has been shot and killed outside a South Carolina nightclub.FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Dennis Thurman knows an interception is coming. He can feel it. Its just a matter of when.Four games, no picks and lots of head scratching. The New York Jets are hoping to change all that in San Diego against Philip Rivers and the Chargers. We just need to break the dam, said Thurman, the Jets defensive co-ordinator. We need to get an interception and hold onto it. We need to make a play on the football. Once you start doing those things, they seem to snowball and happen for you more rapidly. Its a peculiar stretch of futility for the New York Jets defence, which leads the NFL with 14 sacks and ranks No. 3 overall in yardage allowed. Its also tops in the league in run defence. Not bad, right? But Rex Ryans Jets are tied with his twin brother Robs New Orleans Saints for the fewest interceptions in the league.Zero.Theyve had a few chances, but they slipped through some players hands. David Harris had one a€” and held onto it a€” against Green Bays Aaron Rodgers, but it was negated by the Jets being called for having 12 men on the field. Its hard to do, Ryan said of the Jets leading the league in sacks despite having no interceptions. Yeah, absolutely its hard to do. Weve had a couple of opportunities at them. It really is hard to explain. And I think weve got to start attacking the football.I think well keep getting pressure on the quarterback, and hopefully good things are coming, he saidUsually, consistent pressure results in hurried quarterbacks, and that will often lead to interceptions.Rivers has thrown just one in 137 attempts through four games this season, so it wont be easy for the Jets to get that snowball rolling in San Diego. The Chargers have also allowed only five sacks.Guys like that, you have to make them uncomfortable, get to him and get your hands in his face, linebacker Calvin Pace said. Hes a guy that likes to step into a lot of throws. The Jets had four sacks of Detroits Matthew Stafford last Sunday, marking three straight games in which they had four or more a€” the first time the defence has done that since 1985.But all thhree games have been losses, and the defence a€” Ryans bread and butter a€” has failed to consistently come up with big stops in some crucial moments. Dee Gordon Jersey. We are giving up too many big plays, so we have given up some in coverages where you think we have a guy doubled, and we give up an 80-yard touchdown, a 60-yard touchdown, Ryan said. We have to stop doing those things, obviously. When we do that, I believe that now we are going to start becoming a much better defence. At Green Bay, the Jets were up 21-9 with less than two minutes before halftime, but Rodgers led the Packers on a 97-yard touchdown drive, scoring with 8 seconds left. After New York tied it at 24 in the third quarter, Rodgers delivered a knockout blow, an 80-yard TD pass to Jordy Nelson.Against Chicago the following week, New York gave up several long scoring drives.Last Sunday, the Jets allowed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Ross in the second quarter on a third-and-10 play. With the game still within reach with the Lions up 17-10, Stafford marched them down the field 90 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.Third down is a situation where your great pass rushers, your great cover guys have to (execute), Thurman said. Thats the time where you get interceptions. Thats the time where you get sacks and we just havent executed as well as we need to in those situations. The Jets secondary will get top cornerback Dee Milliner back this weekend after he missed two games with a quadriceps injury. But Ryan and Thurman might stick with Antonio Allen and Darrin Walls as the starters, depending on how the game is going.New York has played a bit more zone coverage in recent weeks, mixing it in with man coverage, which has been the traditional approach Ryans team have taken. But with teams getting big plays through the air against them, the Jets will try anything to get that first interception. Its just being opportunistic, taking a shot here or there, Pace said. But yeah, it is a number that we have to get better.___AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL ' ' '
