CHICAGO -- Rookie Jose Abreu connected for his second multihomer game in three days and the Chicago White Sox ended a 14-game losing streak against Cleveland, beating the Indians 7-3 Thursday night. The Cuban slugger hit the first two homers of his major league career Tuesday in Colorado. Abreu has four homers and 14 RBIs in 10 games. Alexi Ramirez homered and drove in three runs for Chicago. The Indians had outscored the White Sox 102-45 in a streak that dated to last June. White Sox starter John Danks (1-0) got off to a rocky start, but settled down to allow three runs and six hits in six innings. Indians starter Danny Salazar (0-1) struck out 10 in 3 2-3 innings. He also gave up five runs and six hits, including homers by Abreu and Ramirez. Salazar fanned eight through three innings, with the only non-strikeout out coming when Adam Eaton tried to stretch a single into a double in the third inning. Salazars problem was that when the White Sox made contact, it was solid contact. Cleveland staked Salazar to a 2-0 lead by scoring twice in the top of the first. Abreu homered to lead off the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half, but Asdrubal Cabrera got the run back with a homer leading off the third. The White Sox tied it 3 in the bottom of the third on a leadoff homer by Ramirez and an RBI single by Eaton. Chicago took a 5-3 lead and chased Salazar in the fourth as Ramirez drove home a pair with a double. Abreu later homered to left field off left-handed reliever Josh Outman. The Jets were in a power play slump with one goal in the last 15 games. "The power play was a big plus," said Coach Claude Noel post-game. "We really didnt do anything different, just hit the net and they went in. It was only a matter of time." Jets have now won five of the last six games (last three by shootouts), extended their home winning streak and overall winning streak to four games and are back to a game above .500 at 10-9-2. They are 7-5-1 at MTS Centre. Jets came out strong and badly outshot the Flyers in the first five minutes, however Steve Mason was great in the Flyers goal. The Jets got on the board at 5:36 as Dustin Byfuglien beat Mason for his second of the year and first power play goal of the season. 49 seconds later off a face-off Scott Hartnell took the puck around the Jets net and banked one in off Pavelec to tie the game. The Jets were very good in the third and finally tied the game on a power play. It was Byfugliens second of the game and third of the year as the Jets power play ended the night two-for-four. A great job by Toby Enstrom to keep a clearing attempt in the Flyers zone, good hustle by Byfuglien to get to an Evander Kane pass, and then a give and go with Olli Jokinen ended with a blast from the line that beat the right handed catching Mason glove side. Jets outshot the Flyers 13-4 in the third and played the period without Zach Bogosian who left late in the second with a lower body injury. His status for Sundays game in Minnesota is not known at this time.
